West Brom must unleash Callum Robinson v Southampton
Callum Robinson was on fire last week and he could be key for West Brom once again if he starts against Southampton.
The attacker spent seven games without getting a minute before he came on as a first half substitute against Chelsea and blew them away.
An emphatic volleyed finish – which The Times’ Henry Winter called “glorious” – put Albion in command before he rounded off the win in style with a deft finish late on.
West Brom now have to go all out against Southampton to win – anything less all but guarantees relegation.
As a result, Sam Allardyce should start with the same team that finished the game at Stamford Bridge, with Robinson operating on the left flank.
He has a point to prove to his manager and that will hopefully lead to another strong display.
After Robinson’s double last week Allardyce issued him a stern warning.
“Let’s hope he can keep it up because we need finishers to convert the chances we are creating if we are to stand any chance of getting even closer to safety,” Allardyce told the Express & Star.
He added, “It has to carry on. It can’t stop. It has to carry on.”
Robinson clearly has quality but he has simply not been consistent since his arrival at The Hawthorns.
He seems to be a confidence player and that bodes well for the game against Southampton, as Robinson was unplayable last week.
If he is able to link up with Matheus Pereira and Mbaye Diagne as he did against Chelsea then Southampton may not be able to stop us.
It is encouraging to finally be discussing Albion as an attacking force and we hope Robinson can excite once again.
Even if we do go down, the forward hitting form now would provide a lot of promise for next season as he could be a key player in gaining promotion.
