West Brom Super Fans laud Ainsley Maitland-Niles after Southampton win

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Brom Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around The Hawthorns.

West Brom Super Fans have been raving about several Albion players following the 3-0 win over Southampton.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mbaye Diagne and Okay Yokuslu won most of the plaudits but Sam Allardyce was also praised for the job he is doing at The Hawthorns.

West Brom showed good character to overcome a terrible VAR decision early on and we dominated a Southampton team that has impressed at times this year.

The players suddenly have an air of confidence about them and look capable of putting pressure on teams and scoring goals.

Unfortunately, as some of our Super Fans recognise, it may be too little too late, as Newcastle’s win over Burnley at the weekend means they are still eight points ahead of us.

After Monday’s win West Brom News asked our Super Fans what they thought of the performance and who stood out for them.

Here is what they had to say.

It has taken Maitland-Niles a while to display his best form but he was at the top of his game against Southampton.

His energy was a big factor in our control of the match and it allowed him to complete two tackles and two interceptions [WhoScored].

The Arsenal loanee was also influential in attack and found Matheus Pereira with a brilliant pass that put the Brazilian clean through.

Pereira was taken out and scored the resulting penalty, helping Albion to grab the vital first goal.

He has built a good understanding with Pereira in front on him and Okay Yokuslu alongside in the middle of the pitch.

That trio also proved too much for Chelsea to deal with and if they maintain their current form we are confident of beating Aston Villa too.

In other West Brom news, ‘100% he’s not staying’ – Joseph Masi makes claim about future of West Brom midfielder.
