Ainsley Maitland-Niles picked up ankle injury, should return for West Brom v Leicester
West Brom midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles appeared to have picked up an ankle injury in the 3-0 win over Southampton on Monday.
The Arsenal loanee suffered a heavy fall during the big victory in the Premier League, one in which he was instrumental at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies have no game this weekend due to the FA Cup, and won’t travel to Leicester City until Thursday evening, giving them a big break.
Birmingham Live have shared a major update on the midfielder, and have shared whether he should return for that trip to the King Power next week.
“That ought to be enough time for the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Kyle Bartley to recover fully,” he said.
“Maitland-Niles took a heavy fall in the Southampton win, but was able to complete the game, though he did feel his ankle towards the end.”
Coming into his own.
Maitland-Niles came to The Hawthorns wanting to play in midfield, rather than at wing-back, and it certainly took some time for him to get used to that.
That has finally happened, and the Arsenal man was superb in wins over Chelsea and Southampton in this survival battle.
The 23-year-old has made eight tackles in the previous two games, according to WhoScored, as well as attracting four fouls as he proves his worth in each third of the pitch.
With points desperately needed to survive, Sam Allardyce will be desperate to have his cemented side all fully fit for each game remaining, and Maitland-Niles certainly falls into that category.
