We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has been thrilled by the performances of West Brom forward Callum Robinson since his return to Premier League action.
The Republic of Ireland international came off the bench against Chelsea and scored twice, before firing home another in the Southampton win on Monday.
Super Kev has handed credit to Sam Allardyce for making that decision to bring in him from the cold, but also to Robinson for grasping that with both hands.
“Whenever we’ve spoke, we’ve said that if you get an opportunity in football, you’ve got to take it and he’s doing that,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“It’s great to see at this time of the season when West Brom need to win games. I did predict they’d beat Southampton and at the end of the day, these players have to step up when you get an opportunity and he’s definitely done that.
“Credit to him and credit to Sam for giving him an opportunity.”
It has really come down to the business end of the Premier League season, and the Albion are reaching their peak when it really matters.
Robinson hasn’t made much of an impact before this past fortnight, but his three goals in two games have been incredible.
The Irishman will be looking to be that hero to fire home the goals needed for survival, and we just hope the eight-point gap isn’t too much.
Big Sam has his preferred starting XI, and Robinson has done excellently to earn his spot back in there, but he has to continue at this rate to keep his place.
