Sam Allardyce blasts ‘Horrendous’ Mbaye Diagne miss in West Brom loss v Leicester

Sam Allardyce vented his anger after West Brom lost 3-0 at the hands of Leicester City at the King Power on Thursday night.

Albion’s heavy defeat in the East Midlands is yet another major dent in their faint hopes of Premier League survival with the Black Country club sitting nine points shy of safety with six games left to play.

West Brom did have the chance to take the lead at Leicester, believe it or not.

Matheus Pereira found Mbaye Diagne with a good pass inside the penalty area and the on-loan striker seemed as though he was destined to score before he completely fluffed his shot.

Speaking after the game, Allardyce bemoaned Diagne’s miss, as well as the Premier League’s failure to move the Aston Villa game back a week so the Baggies didn’t have a 10-day break between their last two fixtures and a two-day break between the next.

“The front two in the first half gave us a hard time. We did have the one chance – it wasn’t even a bad miss, it was horrendous,” said Allardyce of Diagne’s first-half effort, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“We wanted to play Villa last Saturday, they wanted to play us but we weren’t allowed to. There is no need for us to play tonight and then Sunday. Why?

“Fine margins determine these games.”

Awful. Simply awful

We haven’t played like that in a long time.

Not one player really had a decent game for West Brom. Sam Johnstone did well on a couple of occasions to keep the score down but if Leicester were really at their best, they would have stuck five or six past us.

Albion’s midfield was so flat with Okay Yokuslu easily having his worst match for the club since joining on loan from Celta Vigo in the winter. If there’s one positive about that, it could make it easier for us to sign him in the Championship.

Defensively, it was a mess. Dara O’Shea and Conor Townsend were made to look like the Championship players we all feared they would be in the Premier League while up front, Diagne wasted yet another golden opportunity.

Diagne’s missed so many chances for Albion now.

While he’s definitely the club’s best striker, it’s so frustrating to see him failing to hit the back of the net in these moments.

In other West Brom news, this Albion player’s value rises £1million every time he plays.
