West Brom takeover update: Parties poised to move once season is over
West Brom fans could see a surge of activity in regards to a potential takeover at the end of the season, according to The Telegraph’s John Percy.
The reporter has written that “a number of parties are poised to move once the season is concluded”.
On April 4, the Sunday People reported in their print edition that West Brom owner Guochuan Lai was in an exclusivity agreement with an interested party.
Percy has now reported that any potential takeover could be linked with the future of Sam Allardyce as West Brom’s manager, who “will discuss his future next month with the club hierarchy”.
Time to cut losses
Lai bought an established Premier League club for £200million in 2016.
He’s now reportedly trying to sell a club that is not good enough for the Premier League in 2021 for the same price when football’s economy has been hit hard by COVID [Daily Mail].
There’s no way he’s going to get what he wants when it comes to selling the Albion, especially with them on the brink of relegation too.
He’d be lucky to get half of his asking price at this rate and that is kind of worrying.
We don’t have a clue who Lai will sell West Brom to. It could be anyone who’s out there for a cheap buy who wants to use a football club as their plaything.
Jeremy Peace was very careful about who he sold the Baggies to and while Lai hasn’t been amazing, he hasn’t been the worst owner in the world. He’s no Massimo Cellino or Mike Ashley.
However, Lai won’t feel as though he needs to find a good buyer for West Brom, he’s probably just going to sell to the highest bidder.
In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips claims this player’s value is rising by £1million each time he plays.
