Report: West Brom join race to sign Manchester City youngster Liam Delap

West Brom have entered the race to sign highly sought-after young Manchester City attacker Liam Delap who has been likened to Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

According to TEAMtalk, Liam, son of former Premier League midfielder Rory Delap, is a reported transfer target for a host of other clubs, including Cardiff City, Middlesbrough as well as his father’s former club Stoke City.

The 18-year-old, dubbed as the ‘Next Haaland’, is also a reported target of Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Per the Daily Star, Delap has caught the eye of the Real Madrid scouts who have been impressed with his performances in the Premier League 2.

In 18 games this season, he’s found the back of the net on 20 occasions and has assisted another four. [TransferMarkt]

One to keep an eye on

Delap doesn’t seem to be just any young prospect. He’s already made three senior appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side and also bagged a goal on his debut against Bournemouth last September.

Speaking about him after the game, Guardiola said, per Manchester Evening News, “We are delighted with his performance – he played really well. He’s a different striker to what we have in terms of physicality.

“We see in training how good a finisher he is. Now he has to be calm and keep working.”

Delap is on contract until 2023 at the Etihad Stadium and the City hierarchy are understood to be impressed by his performances.

They see him as one for the future and would be open to the idea of loaning him out next season.

As the Baggies are expected to incur heavy financial losses and a few players in the bargain, signing some like Delap on loan could be a masterstroke and prove to be beneficial for all parties.

The Championship is the next logical step in his progression and it’s looking ever so likely that West Brom will play in the second division for the 2021/22 campaign.
