Kevin Phillips: West Brom will get rid of Kenneth Zohore in summer

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Phillips claims West Brom will “get rid” of Kenneth Zohore in the summer and that the striker won’t be short of suitors.

Zohore, 27, has spent the season on loan at Millwall in the Championship, playing just 17 times in the second-tier and scoring only two goals.

His campaign has been plagued by injury issues, with his latest setback meaning he won’t play for the Lions again during his loan spell at The Den.

West Brom reportedly paid £8million [Telegraph] to sign Zohore from Cardiff in 2019 and he struggled in his debut year at The Hawthorns in the Championship despite the Black Country club winning promotion.

Phillips has tipped the Dane to move on ahead of next season but admits it’ll only be a fraction for the fee the Baggies paid for him.

Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said: “I think they’ll get rid. They might well take a hit or it could be one of those agreements, I don’t know.

“I don’t think they’ll struggle to sell him, someone will always have him because he’ll suit someone, he’s a big, powerful centre-forward.

“You’re not going to be signing someone who’s prolific but you might sign someone who’s going to create opportunities for other people and be a nuisance.

“I don’t think they’ll have a problem in selling him but they won’t get what they would like.

“Their priority will be to get him off the wage bill to try and strengthen the squad for next season.”

When Zohore joined the Baggies, he joined on a four-year contract, which will still have another two years left on it at the end of this season.

We just don’t see how he’s going to see out the last two years so it could be that Zohore’s loaned out again.

As Phillips says, there will be teams interested in Zohore, especially if he’s available on a good deal.
