West Brom crashed to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Wolves in the Premier League on Monday evening.

The result all-but-confirms the Baggies relegation to the Championship, with the gap to Newcastle not being closed.

Sky Sports appeared to catch a nerve around The Hawthorns, with their narrative of the great escape simply make-believe at this stage.

ITV journalist and Albion Daniel Hewitt has hit back at Sky Sports and Wolves on his personal Twitter account, with a hint of realism.

“The narrative on Sky is all wrong: Albion are already relegated, winning tonight wouldn’t have changed that,” he said.

“Wolves are absolutely desperate to beat us, and they have failed again, even against the poorest Albion team they’ve played in years – that’s the story.”

Goodbye.

This being dragged along is a long-standing narrative of previous escapes and Sam Allardyce’s record of never being relegated.

That is set to come to an end and could do as early as our next game in the Premier League, and it would put us out of this misery.

We now need to win all four of our remaining games this season and hope that Newcastle lose every single one of their clashes.

Given their fragile form all season, you could see that happening, but can you see us winning all of our games? Unfortunately not.

It’s time to be realistic, and this narrative has to stop immediately, we are gone.
