Mark Lawrenson predicts West Brom v Arsenal
BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted a West Brom defeat against Arsenal – a result that would confirm relegation for the Baggies.
Relegation is a foregone conclusion anyway, but there’s always a bit of gloom after it is mathematically confirmed.
The probabilities of West Brom staying up are little to none, but a loss against Newcastle could confirm their fate once and for all.
In fact, with Newcastle facing Leicester on Friday, a win for the Magpies would take them 13 points clear of West Brom – making it impossible to finish higher than 18th.
Even if Newcastle drop points, Lawrenson doesn’t expect the Baggies to put up a fight. In his BBC column, he predicted a 2-0 and wrote, “Arsenal have already got Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back and firing after his illness and having Alexandre Lacazette fit too really increases their goal threat.
“Defeat here would send West Brom down, but it is just a matter of time until that happens anyway.”
Get it over with
We’ve known about our fate for a while so it’s not really a big deal that this weekend it will be mathematically confirmed.
Yes, we would love to win every game we play, but it’s looking highly unlikely we pick up three points from the Emirates.
Arsenal have a top-seven finish in sight and will have everything to play for in this game. They’ll be up for it and could put two or three past us.
If there was a fighting chance of survival, Big Sam and the players would’ve been up for it. Now it just seems like a formality and plays right into the hands of Arsenal.
It would be nice if some of our fringe players are given an opportunity to play as that’s something the fans would be happy about in what’s otherwise been a disappointing campaign.
