Martin Keown blown away by Darnell Furlong in West Brom clash v Arsenal

Martin Keown was left blown away by West Brom defender Darnell Furlong in the Premier League clash against Arsenal this evening.

The right-back made the perfect last-ditch tackle on Bukayo Saka at the Emirates to keep the scores goalless at the time as he looked destined to fire home.

Keown was filled with superlatives for the defensive work and heaped mountains of praise on Furlong for his slide tackle.

Speaking of live commentary of the clash on BT Sports, Keown was blown away by the last-ditch work of the defender to keep his side in the game.

“It’s a truly outstanding tackle from Furlong,” he said.

“That is unbelievable. He’s just got that perfect.”

Wow.

Furlong just had to get this spot on, or he would have handed the home side a clear penalty to take the lead at the Emirates.

He did just that, with the perfect challenge to stop Saka in his tracks.

There have been critics of Furlong this season, with his decision making not the best at critical times; take the handball at Crystal Palace for example.

This was one of them examples where he really proved his worth against Arsenal, and his athleticism was vital as he made up for actually letting Saka through on goal.

We were delighted to see the Baggies defence all run to Furlong after the challenge, and we may have been safe from relegation if this type of determination was here all season.
