Steve Madeley: West Brom could have answer on Big Sam future before Liverpool clash
Sam Allardyce is set for crisis talks with the West Brom board today over his future at The Hawthorns after relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.
It was the first time in his entire career that Big Sam has dropped into the Championship, and that activated a break clause for either party to cut ties.
Steve Madeley of the Athletic has reported that we could have an answer before the Liverpool game on Sunday evening.
Writing in his latest edition of the Athletic’s Mailbag, Madeley shared a big update on the immediate future of the manager.
“Whether we will have a final decision I’m not sure, Cameron, but I think it’s very likely we’ll have a clear indication of how things are going,” he said.
“The main factors at play here are whether Albion feel Allardyce, who turns 67 in October, is “up for” a season back down in the Championship and whether he feels the club is equipped to be competitive there
“Those things should become fairly evident quite early in the discussions.”
Clarity.
There is a cloud of uncertainty hanging over our heads at the moment.
Allardyce has dropped hints that he could remain at the club beyond this season, but there have also been suggestions that he is set for the exit door.
We want this situation resolved quickly, as there will be a massive rebuild ahead of next season to kickstart this journey back to the Premier League.
Allardyce has attracted the likes of Okay Yokuslu and Mbaye Diagne to the club, and if he can keep them around beyond this campaign, we would be favourites in the Championship.
It would be a real shame to see all of this progress go to waste, and we hope to have a positive outcome before welcoming Liverpool to town.
