West Brom want talks with Frank Lampard and Chris Wilder as Sam Allardyce quits

West Brom want to hold talks with Frank Lampard and Chris Wilder as they aim to replace Sam Allardyce as their next manager, according to Sky Sports.

It was confirmed on Wednesday night that Big Sam will be leaving The Hawthorns once the season is over with a break clause in his contract set to be triggered.

Sky Sports has shared some extra details on the mutual decision that led to West Brom and Allardyce parting ways.

The report said: “Discussions between Allardyce and his bosses began over a week ago and he was given assurances over player budgets for a promotion push to try to get the team back into the Premier League at the first attempt.

“But Sky Sports News has been told Albion’s hierarchy only wanted the former England manager to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract if he was energised and fully committed to the project.

“When it became clear he was not, it was fairly simple for both parties to enforce the existing break clause in his deal, allowing him to walk away.”

What now?

Where do West Brom go from here?

An experienced manager who’s proven he can improve the squad at the Baggies, who’s shown what he can do in the transfer window, who has got the team playing exciting football at times and has history of winning promotion is being let go.

Will we get better than that? Will our next manager be better than Allardyce? It’s hard to see how.

Wilder and Lampard both have limited but impressive experience in the Championship while both have also done well for a period of time in the Premier League.

They’re definitely not the worst names to be linked with but it does seem as though Lampard may be more likely to go to Crystal Palace with Roy Hodgson calling it a day in South London.

Wilder, therefore, seems like the most likely candidate at this stage.

Is he better than Big Sam? That’s the question everyone is going to be asking.

In other West Brom news, this 23-year-old could be released by Albion next month with a Championship move on the cards.
