Matheus Pereira doubtful for West Brom clash v Leeds on Sunday
Matheus Pereira may have played his final West Brom game after Sam Allardyce confirmed that the Brazilian star is a doubt for Sunday’s game at Leeds United.
The Mirror claim the 25-year-old is ‘set to be sacrificed’ by Albion in order to fund a summer transfer spree after their relegation from the Premier League.
That would be a big blow to supporters of the West Midlands club who have delighted in his performances this season after 11 goals and six assists in the top-flight.
Even worse for them is the news that he may have already played his final game for the club.
Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi detailed a worrying injury update on his personal Twitter profile.
He wrote: “Matheus Pereira is an injury doubt for Leeds unfortunately. Sam Allardyce is going to leave it late to make a decision on him. Pereira is going to try and prove his fitness in training tomorrow morning.”
Maestro leaves on a high note
If Wednesday night’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham was the last we will see of Pereira in an Albion shirt then it was some exit.
We might have lost the game to the East London side but Pereira was head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch.
His mazy dribbling skills were on display in full effect at The Hawthorns in front of his adoring supporters who were back in the stadium after a long time away.
There is, of course, still a chance that his West Brom career is not over but the signs certainly point that way and we could not begrudge him a move back to a top Premier League side.
He’s certainly earnt it, but we’re desperate to see him just one more time in an Albion shirt on Sunday.
We won’t be at Elland Road to support our superstar given the ban on away supporters but we’ll be rooting for him to light up the Premier League for a possible farewell outing, if he does pass a late fitness test.
