Allardyce urges West Brom to end season with victory over Leeds United
West Brom boss Sam Allardyce has urged his side to end the season strong by securing a result against Leeds United at Elland Road.
Allardyce was unable to prevent the Baggies from slipping back down into the Championship after earning promotion to the Premier League just last season.
However, though Albion’s fate has already been sealed they could still move above Fulham into 18th on the final day, assuming that Fulham fail to get a result.
Allardyce, who suffered the first relegation of his career at the Hawthorns, has urged his team to go down fighting by taking the game to Leeds on Sunday.
As reported by the Independent, Allardyce said: “There is still the pride and professionalism to try to finish the season as best you can.
“Sadly for us we have lost our last two difficult games, and I’d hate to finish the final game by losing that as well, because people might think they’ve given up, and they haven’t given up.
“We’ve been fighting until the very end, even though our fate has been decided, to give something back to the fans at West Brom by winning a match.”
Nothing to gain
At this point a win against Leeds wouldn’t really do anything for us, so we won’t especially get up for the game.
If Allardyce wanted to issue a challenge to his team and use the fans as the reason why the club needed to get a result, he should have done so earlier in the week when fans were able to watch at the Hawthorns.
Right now our aim is entirely on how the club can rebuild going forward and which manager can lead us there – if we were to beat Leeds at Elland Road it really wouldn’t mean anything.
However the game against the Whites should give West Brom fans one last chance to enjoy watching Matheus Pereira in a Baggies shirt, because we’re almost certain that he’ll be gone before the close of the transfer window.
It’s a shame that we haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy regular Premier League football in-person this season, but now we go again and target an immediate return.
