Kevin Phillips predicts scoreline for West Brom clash v Leeds United
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom will end their one-season stint in the Premier League with a disappointing defeat to Leeds United on Sunday.
Albion travel to Elland Road for their final match of the campaign knowing they have been relegated back to the Championship for a few weeks.
It’s a game that means very little but it’s also Sam Allardyce’s final one in charge of the Baggies and there’s also an opportunity for the Black Country club to move up to 18th.
While that is a mere consolation in the grand scheme of things, Phillips still doesn’t expect it to happen and he’s tipped Leeds to secure a comfortable win.
“I’m going to go for a Leeds win, unfortunately. I don’t think I’ve gone against West Brom much this season but I’m going to go with 2-0 to Leeds,” Phillips told West Brom News.
West Brom have not won at Elland Road since 2007 when Jonathan Greening and a brace by Diomansy Kamara earned the Baggies a 3-2 win in West Yorkshire.
Phillips even played on that day as Albion finished in the Championship play-offs.
However, since then, West Brom’s record against Leeds has been poor with the West Midlands club failing to win their last four meetings, losing 4-0 and 5-0 in the Championship and Premier League respectively.
Big Sam can bow out on a high, as can some of the players. But we really don’t see it happening and unfortunately have to side with Super Kev on this one.
In other West Brom news, Albion would have to pay £700,000 to hire this manager who’s admired by the board.
