Ian Darke: West Brom can make huge profit on Matheus Pereira
BT Sport commentator Ian Darke claims West Brom will be able to make a massive profit on Matheus Pereira in the summer.
Pereira, 25, has been the stand-out player at The Hawthorns this season despite the Baggies suffering relegation from the Premier League.
He scored 11 goals and supplied six assist in 33 appearances in his first season as a Premier League before being left out of Sam Allardyce’s squad for the defeat to Leeds on Sunday.
Darke claims that Pereira was left out due to illness but he’s eluded to the fact that it could be related to the Brazilian’s future in the Black Country.
“The word is he reported ill yesterday,” said Darke on BT Sport 2 in the first half of the defeat to Leeds.
“You do wonder whether he’ll be on his way in the summer.
“He’s a player who should be playing in the Premier League from everything we’ve seen.
“It will be a big mark-up for West Brom, they only paid £9million for him. He’s [worth] possibly, what, £20million or £30million?”
Leeds-bound?
The Express has recently reported that Leeds are one of the teams who are interested in signing Pereira in the summer transfer window.
Leicester are said to be winning the race for him with West Ham also identifying the South American playmaker as a potential replacement for Jesse Lingard if they fail to land the Manchester United loanee permanently.
It wouldn’t shock us, however, that Leeds are seen as a serious contender to sign Pereira and that’s why he wasn’t played against them on Sunday.
Pereira’s a fantastic player.
He’s arguably the best player we’ve had on a permanent deal at West Brom in the last couple of decades.
The ex-Sporting CP ace has everything an attacking midfielder needs. He can score, he can create, he can turn defenders inside out and he’s a hard worker too.
Can we see him at West Brom next season? Absolutely not.
But if we can get £30million for him, that wouldn’t be awful.
In other West Brom news, Albion would have to pay £700,000 to hire this manager who’s admired by the board.
