Liverpool are open to selling West Brom target Taiwo Awoniyi for £8m
West Brom transfer target Taiwo Awoniyi could be sold by Liverpool this summer, according to The Athletic.
The report outlines Albion’s interest in striker, alongside Fulham and Stoke.
It also states that the billionaire-owned Reds [Forbes] are open to selling the 23-year-old alongside a number of other fringe players, and will likely demand £8million to let him go.
Awoniyi has recently been granted a work permit so there would be no barrier to bring the Nigerian to The Hawthorns.
Mixed record
It is easy to see why Liverpool are looking to sell Awoniyi but at £8million he would be a bit of a gamble for the Baggies.
He once scored 11 goals in 16 games for Royal Excel Mouscron in the Belgian league in 2018/19 but since then he has experienced a dip in form.
Awoniyi has struggled in the Bundesliga in the last two years, scoring just six goals in 33 league games.
It is possible a drop in level at West Brom could see him rediscover his goalscoring touch, particularly as he will have the chance to settle at a club, having been loaned out several times in the last few years.
There is no guarantee of success however, and his lack of experience is a concern for us.
Given the potential fee he would likely arrive as our main attacking signing, as we would probably not have much budget left to add another big-money addition.
A loan deal with an option buy may be the best deal for us at present therefore, as it would give us a proper chance to assess his ability before spending big.
