West Brom keen on Barnsley loanee Daryl Dike - Report

West Brom have reportedly emerged as suitors this summer for striker Daryl Dike who is on loan at Championship side Barnsley.

According to TEAMtalk, is at the centre of an eight-team scuffle this transfer window, of which West Brom are also a part.

However, the report mentions that Everton and Wolves are currently holding the upper hand in the race as the player would prefer plying his trade at a Premier League outfit.

He’s officially on the books of Orlando City, who loaned him out to Barnsley in the January transfer window. Barnsley have the option to buy him permanently for £18m – which they were considering had they moved up to the Premier League, but losing their play-off semi-final to Swansea meant that they’re unlikely to be able to afford him this summer.

Since moving to the Oakwell Stadium, Dike has been impressive – scoring nine goals from an Expected Goals (xG) total of only 6.45.

That means the 21-year-old has scored three more goals than the average striker would from the same positions. If his age is any indicator, he still has a long way to go before he hits his peak and could end up being a lethal goal scorer in the coming few years.

Sign him up

While it may be tempting to join a Premier League club, Dike is unlikely to be the first choice at Everton or Wolves.

At West Brom, most probably under the tutelage of Chris Wilder, Dike will be a regular and the manager will build his team around the clinical goal scorer.

Dike’s movement is exemplary and he’s also a menace in the air – winning 19.93 aerial duels per 90 minutes in the Championship this season. [Wyscout]

As mentioned earlier, he is massively outperforming his xG and has been averaging a goal every other game this season in the league which is impressive for any Chmpionship striker.

He’s also a willing worker off the ball and his defensive contributions are worth noting. He averages over two interceptions per game and is often found in the defensive third – making at least one clearance in every match.

Due to our Championship status, suddenly the number of players we could sign has diminished, but Dike is undoubtedly a realistic option worth pursuing further.
