View: Clarke-Harris signing will increase West Brom promotion hopes

According to the Bristol Post, West Brom are hot favourites to sign Peterborough striker Jonson Clarke-Harris this summer.

The English striker has bagged 33 league goals this past season and was the driving force in helping Peterborough secure promotion.

Despite the fact that they’ll be in the same division as West Brom next season, the Baggies are promotion hopefuls, and joining them could be a tempting prospect for Clarke-Harris.

Peterborough have a penchant for finding strikers on the cheap and selling them for a hefty profit. Ivan Toney is a classic example who was bought for £350,000 and was sold after having a 31 goals and 10 assists season for an impressive £6.5m fee to Brentford. [TransferMarkt]

Clarke-Harris could be of a similar mould, and it is understood that the newly-promoted club are willing to offload him this summer.

The Baggies’ head of recruitment Ian Pearce is believed to be driving the club’s chase of the former Rovers star, and even after Sam Allardyce’s departure, their stance on the player has not changed.

Vital to our promotion push

A number of our star players could be on their way out, so we must replace them wisely or risk not getting promoted the first time of asking.

We might be one of the favourites to win the Championship, but we can’t afford to take anything for granted.

Signing a striker who will undoubtedly be a pre-season contender for the Golden Boot will give us that push going into the 2021/22 campaign.

The 26-year-old is a mobile forward that prefers to play within the width of the 18-yard area. He seldom drifts to the flanks and that’s primarily why he finds himself breathing on the neck of defenders looking to slot the ball into the back of the net.

We’re hoping that the club persists in their chase for the player as he is one we need to secure promotion next season.
