Steve Madeley: Okay Yokuslu enjoyed West Brom move but permanent deal is 'Unlikely'
Okay Yokuslu detailed his delight at his West Brom stay to Albion figures but a permanent move is still unlikely, according to The Athletic’s Steve Madeley.
The Turkey international joined on loan from Celta Vigo in February, and his arrival helped to inspire a run of just two losses in eight games as Sam Allardyce’s side battled to preserve their Premier League status.
However, the West Midlands side suffered a disastrous end to the season, failing to win any of their last seven fixtures as they succumbed to relegation.
Writing on The Athletic website, West Brom reporter Madeley divulged the 27-year-old’s conversation with members of the Albion staff, and whether there is a chance he could extend his stay at The Hawthorns.
He wrote: “It seems unlikely given the level of interest that will come his way during the summer.
“But he has told figures at Albion how much he enjoyed his time at the club, so supporters live in hope he will play a major role next season.”
Yokuslu didn’t enjoy the greatest of ends to the season, much like many of his teammates, but there is undoubted star quality there, and we are desperate for him to stay at the club.
As alluded to by Madeley, that prospect seems unlikely to say the least, given our relegation back to the Championship.
But until he announces his next move we will still be holding out hope.
He transformed our midfield for a short period last season, alongside fellow loanees Conor Gallagher and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
We’ve now been left extremely light in that area as they have all returned to their parent clubs.
Premier League clubs are sure to be sniffing around for Yokuslu, and his performances at the upcoming European Championships could have a huge bearing on his next destination.
Should he perform well for Turkey it seems unrealistic to suggest he would drop down to the Championship, but if he struggles or barely plays it could be much more achieveable.
