Ipswich in advanced talks to sign West Brom midfielder Rekeem Harper

Ipswich Town are in advanced talks over a deal to sign West Brom midfielder Rekeem Harper, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The newspaper reports the League One club has tabled a bid for the 21-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham City in the Championship.

TWTD reported on Wednesday that Ipswich are set to pay around £500,000 for Harper but the East Anglian Daily Times adds the fee could rise over £1million due to additional clauses.

Midfield issue now huge concern

Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers look set to the only central midfielders left at West Brom if Harper joins Ipswich.

With the season being over, we’ve seen Okay Yokuslu, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Conor Gallagher return to their parent clubs upon the completion of their loan spells at The Hawthorns and that has left a massive issue in the middle of the park.

Whoever replaces Sam Allardyce as the next Baggies manager has a huge job to do in that respect because our central midfield options have been poor for several years now.

Harper was never going to be the answer so cashing in on him for up to £1million seems like a sensible option.

The Hawthorns academy product, who’s been with the club since he was 12, failed to impress on loan at Birmingham and he struggled to get going for us in the Championship too.

It’s not much money but it will all help in the end.

We wish Rak well if he does head to Portman Road in this transfer window.

In other West Brom news, Albion now want to hire this manager after talks to appoint David Wagner failed.
