View: West Brom must sign £8 million-rated Taiwo Awoniyi

The Athletic have recently reported that Liverpool are looking to cash in on players to generate funds this summer, and West Brom target Taiwo Awoniyi is one name that could be made redundant.

He’s valued at £8 million, by the same source, and is a transfer target for the Baggies along with the likes of Fulham and Stoke City.

The 23-year-old joined the Merseyside outfit from Imperial Academy in Nigeria in 2015 but has never featured for the club.

Instead, he has spent his time out on loan at a number of clubs including Union Berlin, Mainz and Gent.

West Brom are understood to be happy with what they’ve seen of him and could make a move for him in the summer.

Get this one done

The key for every promoted side is having a striker that can guarantee you goals which results in winning games.

With the major upheaval we’re expected to see, it’s almost certain that we’re going to sign a couple of attacking players this summer.

One player that’s on our radar, and one whom we should move heaven and earth to sign, is the Liverpool forward.

Six years after joining Liverpool, in May this year, he was finally granted his work permit – meaning he will now be eligible to play in England. [BBC]

He’s had a total of nine goal involvements this past season but has only played 22 games, and that too for a Mainz side that avoided the drop by only six points.

At West Brom, he will play in one of the division’s better teams, and unlike at Mainz, will go into most games expecting to win them.

He’s proven to be a clinical and reliable striker and one who can play on the right, left and also as a number 10 – giving us a versatile option who could be deployed anywhere in the attacking third.

There’s a reason why Liverpool value a player without a senior appearance that highly, and we must be looking to sign him if we can afford it.
