Derek McInnes now a leading contender to be next West Brom manager
Derek McInnes is now a “leading contender” to be the next West Brom manager, according to The Scottish Mail on Sunday.
Writing via the newspaper’s print edition [June 13, page 137], Graeme Croser reported that Chris Wilder was the initial first-choice before David Wagner rejected the Albion in favour of BSC Young Boys.
It is understood McInnes has “strong ties” to The Hawthorns due to his previous spell as a player at the Black Country club and he’s now among the favourites to get the job.

Forever linked
Whether McInnes gets the job this time around or not, he’s always going to be linked with the vacancy at The Hawthorns.
It’s kind of a shame really because McInnes is no longer seen as the captain that led West Brom to the Premier League for the first time since England’s top flight was rebranded.
Instead, he’s seen as a manager with a dull style of play who’s always seemingly on Albion’s radar whenever they need a new boss.

We’ve found a report on BBC’s website saying that McInnes was linked with West Brom as far back as 2009 when he was still in charge at St Johnstone.
It’s been 12 years since that report and little has changed.
McInnes’ managerial career has gone quite well in Scotland.
Yes, he had that awful stint at Bristol City in between spells at St Johnstone and Aberdeen but at McDiarmid Park and Pittodrie he won promotion and the Scottish League Cup at each respectively.
We could do worse than McInnes but it’s his style of play that worries us most.
It’ll be like having Tony Pulis back but instead of trying to avoid relegation with hoofball, we’d be trying to win promotion.
In other West Brom news, Albion now want to hire this manager after talks to appoint David Wagner failed.
