Alan Nixon: West Brom set to take loan decision over Josh Griffiths amid League One interest

West Brom are set to make a decision over the future of 19-year-old goalkeeper Josh Griffiths, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

The Albion shot-stopper, who spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Cheltenham Town, is said to be attracting attention from a couple of League One clubs.

Nixon has credited two third-tier sides with an interest in the teenage star labelled “marvellous” by Cheltenham on Sunday.

He wrote on his personal Twitter profile: “Portsmouth want a new goalkeeper. West Brom lad Griffiths is of interest. Lincoln [City] like him too.

“Loan decision is coming.”

One more loan?

Griffiths is edging ever closer to the West Brom first team, but another loan would do him wonders.

The expected exit of number one Sam Johnstone will open up a slot in the goalkeeping department, but it may be too early for Griffiths to make the step up.

He performed wonders for Lincoln last season, but that was in League Two, and it would be a big call to promote him to the Championship.

Another loan, this time to a higher level, is the best step for him to take now.

With David Button in reserve and Alex Palmer returning from his Lincoln loan, there are plenty of options in that area of the pitch, and Griffiths would be best served seeking regular game time elsewhere before returning for the 2022/23 season and trying to establish himself in the Abion XI.
