Rob Dorsett: Michael Appleton turns down West Brom job

Michael Appleton has rejected the chance to take over at West Brom, according to Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett.

The Lincoln City manager has been heavily linked with Albion as they search for Sam Allardyce’s successor after the 66-year-old announced last month that he would be stepping down from his post.

However, it looks as though the West Midlands club’s pursuit of the Englishman has ended in defeat.

Dorsett detailed Appleton’s decision on his personal Twitter profile.

He wrote: “I Understand Michael Appleton has told West Brom that he doesn’t want the Head Coach job at The Hawthorns. He wants to see the project through at Lincoln.”

Another one bites the dust

Who’s going to be next to turn us down? The names are starting to stack up now.

David Wagner and Appleton are two managers known to have rejected the chance to take over at West Brom, while the club abandoned a deal for ex-Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder.

The contenders are starting to be ruled out one by one, and our list of targets must be very small now.

It’s concerning to see, particularly in Appleton’s case.

This is a manager who used to play for the Albion, stuck in League One, and even he doesn’t want to take the reigns at The Hawthorns. Are we that unattractive now?

It’s no wonder, given how bad our board have been in recent years in regards to their handling of the club. We’ve lurched from one disaster to the next under Guochuan Lai, with two relegations on his CV now.

The hunt goes on.
