Alex Mowatt to undergo Thursday medical to complete West Brom move

Alex Mowatt is set to undergo his medical on Thursday as he closes in on a permanent move to West Brom.

The Express and Star have reported that the Barnsley skipper failed to report to pre-season training at Oakwell yesterday.

With his contract expiring today, the midfielder should complete his switch to The Hawthorns with relative ease on a free deal.

Valerien Ismael will meet his squad for the first time this morning, as pre-season training kicks off.

Mowatt himself has given a glowing account of the Frenchman from their time together in Oakwell, labelling him as “scary.”

It’s expected to be the first major signing of the summer and the first of many with the squad needing an entire rebuild.

Relegation from the Premier League saw the majority of our midfield options leave after only being on loan under Sam Allardyce.

Needed.

This was a move that desperately needed to be made ahead of the new Championship season.

We couldn’t stand the thought of another year watching Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore in midfield, especially under Ismael.

The Frenchman demands an unbelievable press from his side, and those are two players that wouldn’t be able to cope with that.

Mowatt is one of those that thrived under those demands at Barnsley, not only captaining the side but scoring eight goals and adding seven assists.

This is smart business, and hopefully, the first of many as this big rebuild begins under Ismael and his team.
