Kevin Phillips: Kean Bryan could be ‘Solid signing’ for West Brom

Defender Kean Bryan could be a “solid signing” for West Brom this summer, according to Kevin Phillips.

The Sun has reported that Valerien Ismael has set his sights on the 24-year-old centre-back, who played 13 times in the Premier League last season for Sheffield United as they were relegated.

It is understood that Bryan could be tempted to head to The Hawthorns amid interest from the new Baggies boss.

Bryan’s three-year contract at Bramall Lane expired on Wednesday night and Phillips reckons he could add some extra depth in an area the Baggies need it.

“He’s got experience of playing top level football,” Phillips told West Brom News.

Normally when a new manager comes in, you look down the spine of the squad and I think that’s an area West Brom do need to strengthen.

If they can get him in and not have to pay a fortune then it could be a solid signing.

I don’t know too much about him but from what I have seen, he’s fairly solid. He could fit quite nicely into the defence.”

Bryan is unlikely to be someone who West Brom fans are familiar with but he started his career at Manchester City, went out on loan a couple of times to teams in League One and was snapped up by Sheffield United in 2018.

He spent a period on loan at Bolton while he was on the books at Bramall Lane but ultimately he struggled for game-time and has never played in the Championship in his career.

Bryan is versatile and can play on the left-hand side of the pitch or in the centre of the midfield, as well as in his regular centre-back role.

However, Albion do have plenty of centre-back options going into next season as it stands.

In other West Brom news, Albion want to sign this player who scored against them last season.
