West Brom win the race for Alex Mowatt, poised to confirm signing

West Brom have won the race to sign Alex Mowatt this summer, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The report has insisted that the Baggies are poised to confirm the switch after his medical, which will take place today.

Valerien Ismael is set to confirm his first signing, and it will be his former captain at old club Barnsley arriving at The Hawthorns.

Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough were both in the race for the central-midfielder, but look to have lost out.

Ismael was key to the decision, with Mowatt determined to work with his former boss again in the Championship.

It will be a key signing at The Hawthorns, with midfield seriously lacking after last season in the Premier League.

Conor Gallagher, Okay Yokuslu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all returned to their parent clubs, leaving us with Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers.

Not good enough.

This simply isn’t good enough, and we hope that Mowatt isn’t the only signing in midfield over the summer.

Having scored eight goals and adding seven assists from midfield last season, the former Tykes skipper could be critical.

Livermore could be the man to sit deeper and release Mowatt into a free-roaming role, but we could do with more legs to cope with Ismael’s high pressing.

Mowatt is the perfect signing for that, and he will gel instantly into the style and the group as a new leader.

We hope that this signing being announced is the first of many, and it starts a train of new arrivals over the next month.
