West Brom set to unveil Alex Mowatt as first signing

West Brom are set to unveil the signing of former Barnsley skipper Alex Mowatt very shortly, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The outlet has reported on their website that the 26-year-old will join up with Valerien Ismael after their time together at Oakwell.

Not only that but coach Adam Murray is expected to make it a Baggies treble of moves from South Yorkshire this week.

Mowatt was offered the most lucrative contract in Barnsley’s history to stay at the club, but decided to turn it down.

The playmaker is said to want a new challenge and appears to have turned down advances from Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough for a move to The Hawthorns.

Ismael arrived at the training ground along with the squad on Thursday, and it appears as though Mowatt did as well – completing his medical.

Should those results have returned positive, we can expect the deal to be announced as early as today, if not, over the weekend.

First of many.

This is a brilliant move, and hopefully only the beginning of our summer business, which is desperately needed.

Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers are currently our only two options in midfield, and another season of them two may make us break down.

Both are clearly decent players, but nowhere near effective enough for this high-pressing, all-out style for Ismael.

Mowatt will know what is expected of him instantly, and will now doubt play a critical role in the heart of the side.

After being involved in 15 goals last season, he could provide a new threat from midfield too, something that has been missing for quite some time now.

Hopefully, this gets done quickly, and our new man is announced in no time.
