Kalvin Phillips & Oli McBurnie react to West Brom signing Alex Mowatt

West Brom finally got their summer business underway on Friday, completing the signing of Alex Mowatt.

The playmaker could prove to be brilliant business too, arriving from Barnsley on a free transfer.

Having worked with Valerien Ismael last season, it should take no time for the former Leeds man to settle in at The Hawthorns.

Mowatt has taken to Instagram to share his delight at the news, as he completed his move, and started pre-season on the same day.

There were some big names in the comments celebrating the switch too, including Kalvin Phillips and Oli McBurnie – both have experienced the Premier League last season.

“New chapter,” the midfielder wrote whilst wearing the new home strip.

Gorgeous, indeed.

We are excited by this deal, and it isn’t often we say that with the Baggies and potential free transfers.

Midfield was a clear area that we needed to strengthen, with Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers our only two senior options.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Okay Yokuslu and Conor Gallagher have all left, and so has Rekeem Harper, leaving Ismael with very limited options.

Bringing in a player that knows the new manager is perfect too, it will help the rest of the squad nail down the tactics of the Frenchman perfectly before that trip to Bournemouth.

Mowatt is going to be a key player at The Hawthorns, and the team will likely be built around him despite him only just arriving.

Based on the reaction from his fellow professionals, that doesn’t look like the worst thing, and we already can’t wait to see him in action.
