Owen Windsor signs new deal at West Brom

West Brom forward Owen Windsor has announced on his social media that he has signed a new contract to stay at The Hawthorns.

Windsor’s original deal at the club expired earlier this week [June 30] but West Brom announced on May 27 that fresh terms were on the table for the English striker.

Now, over a month later, the 19-year-old has confirmed that he has agreed to extend his stay with the West Midlands club, writing on his personal Twitter profile that he was “delighted to sign a new deal at West Brom”.

Big season ahead

Windsor endured a pretty dismal 2020/21 campaign after a couple of unsuccessful loan spells.

He was shipped out to Grimsby Town in October, scoring twice in 13 games, but he fell out of favour with manager Ian Holloway and his season-long loan was cut short in December.

The former Southampton academy prospect then signed for Grimsby’s League Two rivals Newport County in January on another loan, but this proved even more difficult for him as he made just one appearance before he was returned to Albion in February.

West Brom

Clearly, it was not the season Windsor had envisaged and it put his Hawthorns career in the balance.

However, the club obviously saw enough in him to hand him another deal, though there has been no announcement via their social media or website to date.

The likelihood will be that Windsor is farmed out on loan once again this coming season in order to get his senior career back on track.

After failing to hit the heights in League Two it seems highly unlikely that he will be handed the chance to impress in the Championship, although new boss Valerien Ismael will be sure to assess his prospects as well as the other young talents in the squad.

Who knows, perhaps Windsor will start pre-season on fire and give the Frenchman no choice but to keep him around, but all signs point towards another temporary move away from the Hawthorns.

In other West Brom news, Albion want to sign this player who scored against them last season.
