Sam Johnstone reacts as Josh Griffiths pens new four-year West Brom deal

West Brom have handed goalkeeper Josh Griffiths a new four-year deal at the club, as confirmed on the club’s official website.

The 19-year-old tasted first-team action for the first time while on loan at Cheltenham Town last term.

Griffiths played a key role as the Robins secured promotion to the League One after winning the League Two title.

The teenager has been rewarded with a deserved extension with West Brom, and England international goalie Sam Johnstone has sent a message to him after the announcement.

Good enough for the Championship?

With Johnstone set to leave the Hawthorns this summer and remain in the Premier League, manager Valerien Ismael would look to bring in a replacement.

Could the Frenchman give Griffiths a chance in the first-team?

Having kept 21 clean sheets in 44 league matches for Cheltenham, the West Brom academy graduate surely deserves a chance to prove his quality in the Championship.

Leeds United secured Premier League promotion last summer with a 20-year-old Illan Meslier who has since established himself in the top-flight, and we could be doing the same with Griffiths.

The England youth international surely deserves to be looked at during pre-season, and it would not surprise us if he impresses Ismael.

Admittedly, the Baggies starlet needs to keep playing regularly for his development to continue, and another loan move to where he is guaranteed the starting berth is the ideal thing to do.

Griffiths is one for the future without a doubt, and no matter the decision made on his future this summer, he will most likely be in goal for us sooner or later.
