West Brom set to net sell-on fee as Manchester City enter talks over Morgan Rogers sale

West Brom could be in line to receive a significant fee after the Daily Mail reported that former player Morgan Rogers is in talks with Crystal Palace.

The 18-year-old spent nine years with the West Midlands club, making two appearances in 2019 before Manchester City swooped for the teenager in August of the same year.

The Halesowen-born forward spent the last season on loan at Lincoln City, scoring seven goals in 35 appearances for the Imps before returning to his parent club.

However, he could be set to depart the Etihad Stadium without making an appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Daily Mail claim that Crystal Palace are in talks to sign Rogers, with Manchester City holding out for a £7million fee.

The Premier League giants bought Rogers from West Brom in a deal worth around £8million, paying half of it up front and another £750,000 in instalments.

West Brom included a sell-on clause in the deal, which means the Baggies are in line to net a significant sum if a move to take Rogers to Selhurst Park goes through.

Boost to the coffers?

This could be an unexpected shot in the arm for our transfer plans this summer.

Rogers was a highly-rated talent when he burst through the ranks at West Brom, that’s why he was handed his first-team debut at such an early age.

However, like many young talents before him, he was dazzled by the bright lights of Manchester City and whisked off to their reserve sides.

He did emerge from the shadows last season at Lincoln, while he doesn’t even turn 19 until later this month.

But it appears that Manchester City are ready to sanction his exit.

There has not been a direct figure mentioned in terms of the sell-on clause Albion negotiated previously, but it would surely see us secure a six-digit fee at least, providing the fee paid by Palace is indeed £7million.

That could provide much-needed funds for wages, loan fees or even a contribution to a transfer fee.
