West Brom boss Ismael details what Pereira has told him
Matheus Pereira is “100 per cent” focused on West Brom despite speculation surrounding his future at The Hawthorns, according to Valerien Ismael.
After an impressive debut season in the Premier League despite West Brom’s relegation last term, the 25-year-old Brazilian has been strongly linked with a move away from the Black Country club.
The Express has reported that Leicester, Leeds, West Ham and RB Leipzig have all shown interest in the ex-Sporting CP attacker.
In his first press conference as Albion manager, Ismael admitted that Pereira could move on this summer but since then, the Frenchman has held talks with the club’s best player.
“With Pereira – we spoke really openly about the situation,” Ismael said, as quoted by the Express & Star.
“I don’t have a problem. We made it simple, you are in or you are out.
“But if you are in, you are 100 per cent.
“He said in training he would give 100 per cent and he is focused.
“I can’t say anything else.”
Potential record sale
Albion reportedly want £30million for Pereira.
The Express & Star reports that the West Midlands club is expected to demand around that amount for the attacking midfielder, who scored 11 goals and supplied six assists in his 33 Premier League outings last season.
If West Brom do get that much for Pereira then he’ll be the most expensive sale in the club’s history.
And in all honesty, it’s exactly what we deserve for the Brazilian star.
Pereira has lit up the Championship for the Albion and was in fine form in the Premier League last term.
Under Slaven Bilic and Sam Allardyce, we were absolutely woeful in England’s top-flight and although he had quiet spells, Pereira was easily our best outfield player.
He’s more than good enough to play for a team pushing for a spot in Europe next season.
We are expecting him to leave but if he does, we would rather it happens early in the transfer window rather than later.
Otherwise, Ismael may find himself stuck to a shoestring transfer budget until it’s boosted by Pereira being moved on.
In other West Brom news, fans should be excited by this young trio who could shine in the Championship next season.
