West Brom are not interested in Conor Hourihane - Joseph Masi

West Brom are not interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourigane, according to Joseph Masi.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon, the Express & Star journalist suggested that The Athletic’s report on the Baggies wanting Hourihane, 30, is wide of the mark.

The Athletic’s report didn’t really say West Brom’s interest in Hourihane was concrete but it seems the ex-Swansea loan star isn’t in Valerien Ismael’s thinking this summer.

That’s a shame.

Hourihane is a great central midfielder for the Championship with the ex-Barnsley player making 145 appearances in the second-tier throughout his career.

Last season, Hourihane joined Swansea on loan from Aston Villa in January after struggling to get game-time in the Premier League for the Villans.

He scored five goals and supplied two assists in his 24 appearances across all competitions for Swansea as they reached the Championship play-off final.

Unfortunately for the Swans, they didn’t have enough about them to beat Brentford in the final but Hourihane definitely played a big role in the Welsh club getting to the stage they did.

Swansea manager Steve Cooper was quoted by the Swans’ official website that Hourihane is a “high-level player” who can cause issues with his set-piece taking.

We could do with someone of Hourihane’s ilk at The Hawthorns next season but based on Masi’s update, the Villa player won’t be heading to the Black Country any time soon.

In other West Brom news, fans should be excited by this young trio who could shine in the Championship next season.
