Arsenal make Aaron Ramsdale top target ahead of Sam Johnstone
Arsenal have made Aaron Ramsdale their top target ahead of West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, and are lining up a £30million bid, according to talkSPORT.
The Gunners want a cover for Bernd Leno, and the Sheffield United goalie and his Baggies counterpart have been on their radar.
They have now picked Ramsdale ahead of the England international in a potential blow to West Brom.
Baggies head coach Valerien Ismael has said we need to sell Johnstone this summer, and the latest development is bad news.
West Ham tabled below £10million for the 28-year-old [David Ornstein], and it was rightly rejected.
With Arsenal looking to part with triple of that for Ramsdale, West Brom would be encouraged to demand at least the same fee, and rightly so.
The Manchester United academy graduate made manager Gareth Southgate’s 26-man European Championship squad and has earned a cap for the country.
Ramsdale only made the squad after Dean Henderson pulled out as a result of a knock, and we believe Johnstone is the better goalie among the two.
Unfortunately, Arsenal do not agree with us, and we have to wait for other suitors.
With both West Ham and the Gunners ruled out and Tottenham Hotspur also looking elsewhere [Sky Sports], we have to admit that the West Brom ace does not have many choices left.
Playing in the Championship next season is beginning to look like an option, but it would harm his World Cup chances, and it will be interesting to see how things go in the coming weeks.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies can cross name off list as journo names reported winner in race to sign forward.
