Alan Nixon tips West Brom for instant Premier League return

Alan Nixon has tipped West Brom to secure an instant return to the Premier League at the end of the 2021-22 Championship season.

The Baggies dropped down immediately to the second division after just a season back in the big time, and they are eyeing promotion come next season.

West Brom have since appointed Valerien Ismael as their new head coach after Sam Allardyce walked away following relegation.

Kyle – a Twitter user – asked The Sun journalist Nixon who he is tipping to win the Championship at the conclusion of the new campaign, and he replied on his personal account.

Spot on!

Valerien came very close to taking Barnsley up last season, and is the best man for the job at the Hawthorns.

We would need to make some quality additions, though, and that is dependent on the futures of Matheus Pereira and Sam Johnstone.

West Brom need to cash in on their most-valued players as soon as possible to prevent being forced to sell them on the cheap during the last days of the summer transfer window.

Ismael has brought in Alex Mowatt on a free, reuniting with the former Barnsley star, but we definitely need more additions.

David Button and Alex Palmer are expected to challenge for the starting berth in goal, with the Baggies looking to bring back Andy Lonergan as third-choice [The Athletic].

With the goalkeeping position sorted, a striker is of utmost importance to the squad.

We have laboured in front of goal in the friendly games against Watford, Sheffield Wednesday and Woking despite scoring thrice, and Ismael knows he needs to get a quality finisher to boost our promotion hopes.

It is a position we need to get right in the coming weeks, and how West Brom fare next season will largely depend on our attack.
