Fabrizio Romano: Signing Matheus Pereira a big opportunity for Leicester City

Fabrizio Romano claims Leicester City are hot on the heels of West Brom attacker Matheus Pereira.

Recently, The Athletic reported that the wantaway 25-year-old had been effectively frozen out by Valerien Ismael.

The Brazilian has not appeared in any of Baggies’ pre-season friendlies and he’s probably played his final game for the club.

Discussing his future on his Twitch channel Here We Go, Sky Sports Italy journalist Romano said, “I’m told he’s one of the possibilities that Leicester are considering, more so than Daniel James as of today.

“He’s one of the players to keep an eye on, I think it’s a big opportunity for them.”

Drive up his price

According to ESPN, we have slapped a £30million price tag on the 25-year-old and we must not reduce it given how interest in his services is only increasing.

Instead, we must capitalise on Leicester’s interest and also West Ham’s, who according to Express Sport journalist Ryan Taylor, have already held discussions with the player’s representatives.

While we would’ve loved to have a player of Pereira’s calibre on at the club, looking at his attitude over the last few weeks, it’s good that he part ways this summer.

He was called ‘spectacular’ by Birmingham Live’s Joe Chapman in 2019, and is undoubtedly still a very good player who will thrive in the Premier League.

We’re fortunate that he’s still got a few years left on his deal so we’re not in desperate need of cashing in on him in the coming weeks.

Also, looking at the heavy demand in his services, there’s already a decent market for him and if we’re smart we can drive up his price and get a deal that suits us the best.

We’re thin on numbers in midfield and also need a 20-goal attacker who can help win us games and get us closer to promotion.

Even if we’re unable to get more than the £30million that’s been reported, it will still be considered a good deal, given that we signed him for £9million [BBC] permanently little under a year ago.
