Chris Lepkowski reacts to Sam Johnstone update

West Brom are still yet to sell either Sam Johnstone or Matheus Pereira this summer as predicted.

Valerien Ismael has made it no secret that the two Baggies stars will have to leave to make it possible for some big arrivals.

West Ham are one of those interested in Johnstone, but they look set to sign Paris Saint-Germain stopper Alphonse Areola [Fabrizio Romano].

Albion fans were left excited by that West Ham update, celebrating that Johnstone may be sticking around at The Hawthorns.

Chris Lepkowski has hit back at those on Twitter, though, claiming that not selling these players could have a big impact on our own plans.

“You do realise this could have a major impact on our recruitment this summer?” he wrote.

Major blow?

As much as we want Johnstone to stay, bringing in funds this summer could be critical for our squad depth.

We have experience and quality in the likes of David Button and Alex Palmer for the Championship, and we could risk losing Johnstone on a free.

The England international only has one year left on his current deal, and him sticking around means that this could be our last chance of bringing in a transfer fee.

Johnstone bringing in £10million-plus could open the door to numerous signings to bolster this squad, and it would be necessary.

Pereira is the big money player, of course, but Johnstone will also be one of those desperate for Premier League football – we have to take advantage of that while we can.
