Darren Carter impressed with West Brom in win over Birmingham

Former West Brom midfielder Darren Carter was blown away by the team’s performance in Saturday’s friendly win over Birmingham.

The Baggies cruised to an impressive 4-0 victory over the fellow Championship outfit.

All four of their goals came in the second half with Valerien Ismael’s side showing how good they can be in the final third.

Carter who was at the game, took to Twitter to wax lyrical of West Brom’s performances on the day.

He wrote, “Back from St Andrew’s – West Brom were excellent.

“The press, intensity and use of the ball were top quality.

“Blues matched that for the first 30 mins but found problems from that point on trying to beat [the] Baggies’ press and smother.”

The Valerien Ismael era

It’s good to see new managers coming in and imparting their philosophy instantly. Ismael’s done just that at the Hawthorns and the team’s looking in solid shape ahead of the new season.

Grady Diangana had a good game and headed us into the lead five minutes after half-time as the team used the interval to take a much needed breather before coming out all guns blazing in the second half.

Matt Clarke scored our second by taking advantage of Birmingham’s failure to get the ball out of the danger area and his strike was followed by Karlan Grant’s well hit penalty.

Having come off the bench, Rayhaan Tulloch enjoyed a decent cameo and got his name on the scoring sheet. He was assisted by Kenneth Zohore.

We still didn’t have all of our first-team players so we can’t wait to see this team in action with Ismael having all his options to choose from.

The players certainly put up a fine showing for the 1,887 travelling supporters in attendance and we’re hoping they keep up their good run of performances once the season begins too.
