Darren Carter delivers Valerien Ismael pre-season verdict
Valerien Ismael has got the West Brom players in tune to his style of play, claims Darren Carter.
The former Baggies midfielder who has followed the team closely during pre-season and has commentated during games has been impressed by the level of performance.
According to him, it’s akin to that of high-end Championship sides and he’s hoping to see more of the same once the season kicks off.
Via his personal Twitter account, he wrote after the Birmingham victory, “Ismael has his players in tune to his style and they are executing very well. Need to continue that into next Friday.
“This can serve as a reminder to Blues that this is what high-end Championship opposition looks like and the levels that are required to compete.
“That said, pre-season has been full of positivity and optimism. This club is moving in the right direction and you can feel the togetherness from team to fans.”
Good performances
We’ve looked in fine touch this pre-season and that’s testament to the work Ismael and his coaching staff are putting in behind the scenes.
We are yet to concede a goal and that’s not to say that we’ve been defensive or negative, but we’ve looked structured on both ends of the field.

Not reading too much into pre-season form, but the players appear to be playing as a cohesive unit rather than a handful of talented individuals.
Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday were probably our best games and we looked pretty convincing in them.
Against Birmingham, we bagged four goals in one half – showcasing just how dominant and potent we were in front of goal.
There are still improvements left to be made, but for someone who’s been here only for a few weeks, Ismael’s done a great job, but the real test begins once the new season kick-offs.
We’re confident that he can get us back into the Premier League the first time of asking.
