Luke Hatfield discusses Matheus Pereira’s impending exit from West Brom

Luke Hatfield, a journalist for the Express & Star, claims that Matheus Pereira’s West Brom career is “set to end on a sour note” after Valerien Ismael’s latest comments.

The Baggies boss criticised the 25-year-old in his latest press conference as he edges closer to the exit door at the Hawthorns. However, this clearly disappointed Hatfield, who claimed that this was a “shame” and that in his time covering West Brom Pereira was “the best player” he had seen play for the club.

The likes of West Ham and Al Hilal are thought to be pushing to sign the 25-year-old, and it does seem as if it is just a matter of time before the Baggies cut their losses and sell an undoubtedly excellent player but one who clearly doesn’t want to be there anymore.

Sour end.

Since the attacking midfielder joined West Brom in the summer of 2019 initially on loan, he has made 77 appearances for the Baggies and has scored 20 goals and provided 26 assists.

Pereira ended the campaign with 11 goals in his first Premier League season, which made him West Brom’s top goalscorer by some distance.

The Baggies had agreed to let Pereira sit out of their pre-season friendlies while his future was resolved, and it seemed as if everything would end on good terms, but after Ismael’s latest comments, that doesn’t seem like it will be the case [Birmingham Mail].

The former Barnsley boss tore into the 25-year-old, describing him as “not committed” to the club [Express & Star].

However, this cannot hide how good he is on the field, and last season his set-piece delivery was described as “wonderful” by Leon Osman, and he will be an excellent player for whoever he signs for [BBC].

He has also been a brilliant player for the Baggies, but it doesn’t seem as if his time at the Hawthorns will end amicably, which is a shame.
