West Brom could sign Adam Reach before Tuesday evening
West Brom are on the verge of completing the signing of 28-year-old Adam Reach on a free transfer, according to Joseph Masi.
The Express and Star journalist, writing via his personal Twitter profile on Monday afternoon [02/08/21], claims a deal for the versatile Englishman is imminent.
Masi said: “I understand Albion are now close to completing the signing of Adam Reach. Could all be done within the next 24 hours.”
Versatile
Albion have made a couple of big signings this summer in the form of Alex Mowatt and Matt Clarke who, although they haven’t cost a transfer fee, are set to be integral members of Valerien Ismael’s starting XI this season.
Reach appears to be a very different type of signing – he’s a proven Championship performer after a five-year spell with Sheffield Wednesday, but there doesn’t appear to be a position in the starting line-up that he looks set to nail down.
Naturally a winger, Reach can also play in several other positions, including at left wing-back and central midfield.
Thus, he could prove to be an invaluable signing this summer, covering in a number of areas, but it’s hard to see him dislodging the current crop of starters.
Conor Townsend looks set for a big season at left wing-back in Ismael’s favoured 3-4-3 formation, but with only youthful cover behind him, Reach could play his most number of games from that position.

Only Mowatt has joined the central midfield ranks, and he looks set to start alongside Jake Livermore in the middle, so Reach could battle Romaine Sawyers for a cameo role in midfield towards the latter stages of games.
Of course, Ismael may look to switch up formations throughout the season, and Reach may get a chance in his favoured role, but for now, it looks like Reach will play the role of versatile squad player.
It may not be the most inspirational signing of the summer, but it could still prove to be an invaluable one.
