Former West Brom technical director Luke Dowling reveals what he knows about the Matheus Pereira saga
Former West Brom technical director Luke Dowling has revealed what he knows about the ongoing Matheus Pereira saga.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Dowling revealed that he thinks Pereira believes he has done enough to warrant a move away from the Hawthorns and described him as the Championship’s “standout player” during the 2019/20 season.
He also claimed that West Brom are handling the situation “correctly” and that there has been a “spat” between the player and the club.

He said: “From Matheus’ point of view, I think he will think that he’s done enough last season as a Premier League player, scoring 12 goals in a team that got relegated.
“The year before when we got promoted, he was probably the standout player in the league.
“I think from the club’s side of things, the manager is preparing without him, which I think is probably the correct thing.
“Ultimately, I think West Brom are doing it correctly.
“I know there’s been a little bit of a spat, but I see that ending well.”
Pereira to leave
Judging by what Dowling said, he thinks that West Brom dealt with Pereira in the right way, and now he looks to be on the verge of completing a move to Al Hilal [Fabrizio Romano].
On Monday, the 25-year-old released a statement about his situation at the Hawthorns, and now the Baggies are very close to selling the Brazilian to the Saudi Arabian side [Pereira’s Twiter account].

It seems as if things got a bit heated between the Baggies and Pereira, but it now appears as if they are close to selling him and potentially making a profit in the process.
It seems odd that Pereira wants to go to Saudi Arabia, but if he wants to go and waste his career in a nothing league, then he can be our guest.
Hopefully, the Baggies re-invest the money into the squad, and we can quickly move on from this Pereira stuff and focus on the season ahead.
In other West Brom news, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that one Baggies player is on the verge of leaving the club.
