Don Goodman hails Callum Robinson in West Brom v Bournemouth

Don Goodman was effusive in his praise for Callum Robinson and his West Brom teammates after the Republic of Ireland international struck to make it 2-2 at Bournemouth.

West Brom were behind twice on the south coast as Emiliano Marcondes and Phillip Billing scored for the Cherries, but Dara O’Shea and Robinson both hit back for the Baggies.

After Robinson scored in the second half, ex-Wolves striker Goodman had some kind words for the 26-year-old and co during live commentary for Sky Sports [06/08/21].

He said: “It’s as good as it gets isn’t it, the movement, the decision making, and ultimately the execution. It’s first class.

“Once the ball breaks to Matt Phillips, we speak about his ability to pick the right pass, he does. Alex Mowatt is onside and he knows exactly where his teammate is.

“There’s work to be done when it arrives at Robinson’s right foot, but he gets the perfect contact and the perfect direction.

“It’s a wonderful goal, a wonderful finish.”

No Chelsea, no problem

Robinson endured a fairly difficult campaign last time out during his first full season at the club.

He made 28 Premier League appearances but often found himself on the bench or outside of the manager’s plans/

The versatile forward still struck five Premier League goals, though, but bizarrely 80% came against Chelsea, scoring twice in a 3-3- draw at The Hawthorns before a brace at Stamford Bridge in a stunning 5-2 win.

The onus is now on the Aston Villa academy graduate to perform to a high standard over the entire campaign and he should be buoyed by his Championship track record.

He scored 29 times in 110 second-tier outings for Preston North End across three seasons, hitting double figures in two of them.

Posting a similar tally this season will be a big boost for the Baggies as the likes of Karlan Grant and Grady Diangana also bid to get in on the goalscoring act.
