Nick Clayton-Phillips posts emotional goodbye after West Brom exit
Nick Clayton-Phillips has left West Brom after he was released at the end of last season, and the attacking midfielder has finally said his goodbyes.
The 21-year-old spent his formative years in the Baggies academy, spending the first half of last season on loan in the National League with Solihull Moors.
Clayton-Phillips featured a lot for the under-23s but was not able to make a senior team debut for West Brom.
He took to his personal Twitter account on Sunday evening to send an emotional goodbye to the club.
Clayton-Phillips wrote: “After taking time to myself to come to the realisation that my time at wba is done, I just want to say thank you to all the coaches and players who played a part in my journey at this club.
“From the first moment I stepped foot in the Hawthorns it was clear to me that my dream was to become a West Bromwich Albion player and although I didn’t achieve this at first team level, to play for the academy and work my way to a professional contract was a dream come to true. I look forward to the next stage of my journey.
All the best
West Brom, like most clubs do, always have to let some of their academy products leave at the end of every season, and the financial hardship the pandemic has caused has not made things any easier.
Clayton-Phillips is currently a free agent after leaving Hawthorns, but we are certain he is going to find a club sooner or later.
It does not always work out with every youth player, but some do make sure that they prove their old club wrong in the end, and we hope the winger can do so.
At the moment, Clayton-Phillips still has a lot of work to do if he wants to make it as a professional footballer.
He made just one appearance for Solihull during his time in the non-league and also had a spell with Kidderminster Harriers.
Not performing at that level speaks volumes, and hopefully, he will find his foot going forward.
He is fondly remembered for bagging a rocket of a strike in a win over Aston Villa U23s at Bodymoor Heath in the Premier League 2 early last year and will now look to find his way into the Premier League in the near future.
