West Brom could look to insert a permanent clause in potential Daryl Dike loan deal

Joseph Masi has suggested West Brom could look to insert a significant clause into any deal that brings Orlando City striker Daryl Dike to The Hawthorns.

Masi himself wrote on the Express and Star website on Monday [09/08/21] that the 21-year-old USA international was being considered by the West Midlands club as they look to bring in a new forward this summer.

However, he said that while the MLS club are open to sending him out on loan again after a successful spell under Valerien Ismael at Barnsley last season, he would cost a “significant” fee.

Speaking on the latest edition of the Baggies Broadcast [09/08/21], Masi believes there could be a permanent clause attached to the deal, in the event that West Brom regain promotion back to the Premier League.

Masi said: “What we understand is his loan fee is very, very expensive, it’s basically like a signing.

“It’s not going to be cheap. Could Albion do something where it’s a loan with an obligation to buy if they win promotion to the Premier League?

“I think that’s probably what we’re looking at, something like that if a deal is to be done.”

Perfect profile

Strong, athletic and with a knack of scoring important goals, Dike would be the ideal striker signing after working under Ismael at Oakwell last season.

He scored nine goals in 19 games to fire the Tykes to the Championship play-offs where they were narrowly defeated by Swansea City.

With the loss of loanee Mbaye Diagne from last season, as well as forwards Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin, Albion are desperately short in the striking department.

Karlan Grant can play there but Ismael may look to play him a bit wider after trialling him there in pre-season with Matt Phillips used as an auxiliary centre-forward.

Dike knows how to score goals in the Championship and could slot straight in under Ismael who hailed his “unbelievable” qualities earlier this year [Yorkshire Post], but it’s important to get a permanent clause inserted at the end of the deal so we are not left high and dry at the end of the season.
