Kevin Phillips: Ismael should have 75% of Pereira sale to sign new players for West Brom
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips expects Valerien Ismael to get 75 per cent of the value of Matheus Pereira’s transfer to Al Hilal to strengthen the West Brom squad.
It hasn’t been reported how much West Brom have pocketed from Pereira’s move to Saudi Arabia but The Athletic has reported it’s below the £25million they initially wanted for the Brazilian.
Whatever the fee was, Phillips wants to see a good amount of it going back into the squad to help Valerien Ismael strengthen his options in the attack.

Speaking to West Brom News, the ex-Albion striker said: “You’d like to think the manager will get three-quarters of what they sold Pereira for to strengthen.
“We all know they have areas that need strengthening.
“If they can get a striker in for that sort of money it’ll be good business.

“It should be a good sizeable sum of money but if the manager’s not given any of that, he’ll be disappointed because he’d like to strengthen that squad with the rigours of the season, the number of games, the injuries they’ll pick up and suspensions.
“It remains to be seen whether he can but I’d like to see the manager be given the funds.”
West Brom are yet to spend a transfer fee on a permanent signing this summer.
Alex Mowatt, who impressed in his debut against Bournemouth last week, and Adam Reach have both arrived on free transfers while Matthew Clarke has joined on loan from Brighton.
In other West Brom news, Phillips has reacted to the news that Albion want to sign this attacker to replace Matheus Pereira.
