Man City striker Liam Delap responds when asked if West Brom loan is on the cards

Manchester City striker Liam Delap has refused to give much away when asked whether he could move on loan to West Brom this summer.

The Express & Star reported last week that Delap, 18, has emerged on Valerien Ismael’s radar as he aims to bring a new centre-forward to The Hawthorns before the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, as shown on the Football Daily Twitter account, Delap was asked whether he could leave Man City on loan with West Brom and Stoke both linked with signing him.

However, the striker kept his cards close to his chest and has faith that his club will steer him in the right direction.

“Obviously, it’s up to the club,” said Delap.

“What’s happened at the club so far has been amazing for me and I trust them to make the right decision.

“I’ve been extremely happy with everything that’s happened at City so I’m really happy here and I’ll just see what the club want me to do.”

Running out of time

It has been a long summer for West Brom supporters.

We’ve had to deal with another relegation from the Premier League, a protracted search for a new manager, Matheus Pereira’s decision to quit the club to join Al Hilal and a lack of new signings.

Alex Mowatt, Matthew Clarke and Adam Reach remain the only new signings so far this summer with two of them arriving on free transfers and Clarke joining on loan from Brighton.

However, now Pereira has gone, you would have thought there’d be some movement in the transfer market for the Albion.

Ismael seems to want to add a new striker before the transfer window closes and Delap is someone who’d definitely excite us.

Last season, the England youth international netted a staggering 24 goals in 20 Premier League 2 appearances.

Yes, it’s Premier League 2 but he did that as a 17-year-old who turned 18 in February. He also earned his senior debut for Man City back in September and scored in a Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth.

It’s a very small sample size but if Delap can score against Bournemouth then there’s a good chance he can score against most of West Brom’s rivals in the Championship.

Unfortunately, it would be just another loan deal and we’ve had our hearts broken many times by loanees in recent years.

It’d be nice to get someone in permanently but Delap, for one season, could make a massive difference.
